Please help bring the Pervaiz family to Canada

Donation protected

My name is Suzanne. My husband Rick and I became friends with the Pervaiz family while living in South Korea 7 years ago. Since hearing their story one Sunday after church, we have been on a mission to bring them to Canada. We hope that after you have read their story, you will join us in bringing them to their new home.

The Pervaiz family owned a home and  grocery store in Karachi, Pakistan which was located beside an Islamic Madrassa (Islamic college). Those from the Madrassa demanded that the Pervaiz family give their business (house) as a donation to it. When the family declined, their lives were threatened and local authorities refused to step in and help. The situation escalated when  the Madrassa threatened to burn down their home, and then 4 men severely beat George Pervaiz, his wife Alfreda and their son AbiShalom who was 12 at the time. Their only option was to flee in order to save their lives and find asylum outside Pakistan.

The Pervaiz family found temporary asylum in Thailand (allowed 1 year), and then fled to South Korea, This is where we met, and at that point they had been on the run for 2 years. They explained that they could never return home because those from the Madrassa had made it very clear that any return to Pakistan would mean certain death.

After developing a relationship with the family, they asked for help. All they hoped for was to live in a safe country, no longer running as refugees. Rick and I agreed to help, and since moving back to Canada we have been working hard on bringing the Pervaiz family here.

The Pervaiz family had to leave South Korea as they were only allowed 2 years. And again had to flee to Nepal where they were able to meet with UN Officials and apply for certification, which they have now received from the UN.

Since the UN has declared the Pervaiz family ‘True Refugees’, the Canadian government will let us start the process of bringing them to Canada. The next step is to follow the Group of 5 Refugee Sponsorship which requires a set amount of $26,000. This will be held in trust to be used for their first year in Canada.

To date we have raised $10,000 and still need $16,000 to meet the government   required amount. Once raised, the Pervaiz family can find community, refuge, and most importantly a forever home in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

The money raised will cover the Pervaiz families rent and groceries. Any extra donations will be used for clothing and furniture. We promise to keep you updated on this page on how the money is allocated and where we are in the process of their journey to Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Helping the Pervaiz family is so important to our family and those who have heard their story because we believe in loving our neighbour, seeking justice for the afflicted, sharing the love of Christ and helping those who are in need.

We are so thankful for your support, any amount is greatly appreciated. Together we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the Pervaiz family, and help give them hope for the future.

Thank you, with great appreciation and Love,  Suzanne & Rick on behalf of George, his wife Alfreda and their son AbiShalom.
