Kids Playground in rural Vietnam

Thanks for making it here to read our story!

My  name is Chi Ngo, an Accounting officer who currently work and live in Melbourne, Australia.

Every evening after work, I walk my dogs to the primary school opposite my house and I always stop by the playground.
I can’t help but look at it and fancy how happy the poor kids in rural Vietnam would be if they could play on a playground like this!

Living in Melbourne, Australia where I can easily find parks and playgrounds wherever I go, as much as I feel lucky, at the same time it is a constant reminder to me that there are kids in rural Vietnam who have never had the luxury to go on the slides, swings, seesaws, .. like most Australian children do.

Yes, children in regional Vietnam have the open sky as their playground and they would be still chuffed playing with just soils and rocks.

However, a safe place where they can play, grow and learn would make a huge difference for their lives.

My heart goes out to Thuong Long, Nam Dong, Thua Thien Hue province because it is considered one of the poorest areas where people live in extreme poverty and have limited access to education, healthcare, transportation and social interaction. Facing harsh natural conditions and frequent natural disasters make their livelihood are very unstable.

Whilst parents struggle  to find work to  put food on the table every day, their children who left unattended playing  on the streets, in the fields, by the rivers because there is no playground for the kids to go to.

Play is the key to physical, mental, intellectual and social well being of children. If we can build a proper outdoor area  so that kids can play every day on their own initiative, that would put enormous positive impact on their early development and learning.

That is why we are on a mission to build these poor kids a playground.

The playground we are planning to set up in Thuong Long - Nam Dong will be simply an area with multiples swings, 2 slides, 2 seesaws, climbers, overhead glider, 2 shades, sand and water play, a couple of benches, picnic tables, fences, rubbish bins, notice board, planters and some plants like some in the pictures below. We aim to commence this project in May 2018 and finish off some time in June-July 2018.

Before i decided to start this fundraising, I personally put aside $7 a week for this project but i realised it would take me years until I saved enough money to set up a playground.  I knew that i could not make this a reality  without your support.  That is why I ask for your help.

It is not just the playground we are going to build. It is happy childhood memories that we are going to create for these little souls.
