Hi everyone! We are three students (Maxwell Landy, Maxwell Steitz and Franziska Trautmann) at Tulane University who just launched a nonprofit called Plant the Peace! We are working to combat climate change at the intersection of education-technology (edtech) and carbon-reduction. We create super fun, educational games (like world geography and vocabulary) that anyone can play on our site (plantthepeace.com ), totally for free! And instead of profiting, we plant trees around the world to help our planet, and reward users (and our atmosphere) for their correct answers! By playing our games, users literally become smarter while planting trees that sequester carbon from the air.
In our first two weeks since launching we’ve already planted over 5000 trees and had over 150,000 unique clicks across our site… and we’re just getting started!
We fund Plant the Peace in a few ways and are committed to always keeping our platform free for users. We fund our non-profit predominantly through strategic partnerships with ethical and sustainable brands who want to reduce (or completely offset) their carbon footprint. Our team conducts a free environmental-audit to determine how many trees we should plant to offset their carbon footprint, and then go do it! Overnight, brands can work towards becoming carbon-negative, effortlessly. This unique funding mechanism allows us to ultimately become cash-sustainable in the near future and earned us the 2019 Alvarez Spark Innovation Award through Tulane University.
But one of the most important ways that allow us to operate is through donations from people just like you. These donations are absolutely critical and go directly towards supporting and building Plant the Peace -- from planting trees across sub-Saharan Africa, to acquiring long term brand partnerships, to designing brand new (awesome) educational games for you to play.
Our vision is broad, but we are SO determined to make it happen. In the near future, we aim to have a fully comprehensive, curriculum-aligned educational platform that can be used in schools across the world. As well as introduce our own in-house tree planting and other forms of carbon capture.
