About two weeks ago I brought my dog Pippa to the vet because she was limping and barely putting any weight on her leg. It was confirmed after taking radiographs that she tore her CCL (cranial crucial ligament) and meniscus in her left rear leg.
The choice I then had was to either take a conservative route (pain killers/anti inflammatories/immobilization) or surgery.
After two weeks of medication, strict rest, and only short walks to go to the bathroom there seems to be absolutely no improvement in her knee or pain level. And her limp seemed to be getting worse.
This morning I took her for a consult with Dr. Puccio at VMCLIand the outcome was what I had expected... the best route (given her age and activity level) would be TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy)
Although it's a very common injury in dogs especially large active ones, I was completely unprepared for this and the cost of surgery.
I absolutely love my pets more than anything. They are my entire life. And Pippa is just one giant sweet doofus. I want her to be able to have the best chance of recovery and success after this is all through.
