Spinal surgery story time in English

Hi guys. I hope you are doing well. My name is Sebastian and I’m from Medellin, Colombia. I used to be an athlete and model. I was very active during my childhood and adolescence. Some years ago (2011) in sports class, I realized that my legs were losing strength. So I worried and they took me to the hospital. They did a lot of exams to try to determine what was wrong and try to fix it. All the exams went well. Until one day the doctors decided to do an MRI to check my whole body. With this exam they discovered that I had an Issue with some arteries that goes through my spine and then down to my legs. It is called (AVM) spinal arterial venous malformations. Those arteries were entangled and they had to fix them so that the blood flow continued and oxygen arrived and at the same time the force also appeared.

So the doctors decided to do an open spine surgery to try to fix that. ( 8 hours in surgery) It was very traumatic for me because I was very young and was the first time I was in a hospital. I was there for more than 1 month.

This surgery had many risks. Like being in a wheelchair for the rest of my life and not walking again. Physical therapy has been fundamental in this process and it will be for all my life . I am very grateful to God for having given me another chance to live and since then I appreciate my life much more.

After the surgery I couldn't move my body from the waist down and with physical therapy I was able to move again little by little.

I like to inspire others. Nowadays I can’t walk without a cane. It helps me to maintain my stability. I have been using my cane for years and I learned to love it. So it is something that doesn’t define me . Something that I was very good at doing was running, but now I can't do it anymore and it's fine. My life changed 360 degrees, because I was not born with this condition. Although my life is not the same as before, and all my plans failed, today I have new plans. a new path that God is showing me. I share the gospel daily , I pray with my online community, inspire others and have grown closer to God. I am a witness that God exists.

The contributions will help me with getting more assistance for my health (physical therapy) that I need them for the rest of my life , Visits to all medical specialists and health expenses because I can’t work full time at the moment . Historia cirugía de columna en español

Hola chicos. Espero que estén bien. Mi nombre es Sebastián Soy de Medellín, Colombia. Solía ser atleta y modelo. Fui muy activo durante mi infancia y adolescencia. Hace algunos años (2011) en clase de deportes, me di cuenta que mis piernas estaban perdiendo fuerza. Entonces me preocupé y me llevaron al hospital. Hicieron muchos exámenes para tratar de determinar qué estaba mal y tratar de solucionarlo. Todos los exámenes salieron bien. Hasta que un día los médicos decidieron hacerme una resonancia magnética para revisar todo mi cuerpo. Con este examen descubrieron que tenía un problema con algunas arterias que pasan por mi columna y luego bajan hasta mis piernas. Se llama (MAV) malformaciones venosas arteriales espinales. Esas arterias estaban enredadas y tuvieron que arreglarlas para que siguiera fluyendo la sangre y llegara el oxígeno y al mismo tiempo también apareciera la fuerza. Entonces los médicos decidieron realizar una cirugía abierta de columna para intentar solucionarlo. (8 horas en cirugía) Fue muy traumático para mí porque era muy joven y era la primera vez que estaba en un hospital. Estuve allí por más de 1 mes. Esta cirugía tenía muchos riesgos. Como estar en silla de ruedas por el resto de mi vida y no volver a caminar. La fisioterapia ha sido fundamental en este proceso y lo será durante toda mi vida. Estoy muy agradecido con Dios por haberme dado otra oportunidad de vivir y desde entonces valoro mucho más mi vida. Después de la cirugía no podía mover mi cuerpo de cintura para abajo y con fisioterapia pude volver a moverme poco a poco.

Me gusta inspirar a otros. Hoy en día no puedo caminar sin bastón. Me ayuda a mantener mi estabilidad. Llevo años usando mi bastón y aprendí a amarlo. Entonces es algo que no me define. Algo que se me daba muy bien era correr, pero ahora ya no puedo hacerlo y está bien. Mi vida cambió 360 grados, porque no nací con esta condición. Aunque mi vida ya no es la misma que antes y todos mis planes fracasaron, hoy tengo nuevos planes. un nuevo camino que Dios me está mostrando. Comparto el evangelio a diario, rezo con mi comunidad en línea, inspiro a otros y me he acercado a Dios. Soy testimonio de que Dios existe .

Las contribuciones me ayudarán a obtener más asistencia para mi salud (fisioterapia) que necesito para el resto de mi vida, visitas a todos los especialistas médicos y gastos de salud porque no puedo trabajar a tiempo completo en este momento. Espero que puedas ayudarme con este objetivo que es tan importante para mí. Que Dios te bendiga mucho.
