Pedalling for Healing: 4000km for Mountain Mental Health
Donation protected
My name is Giordano, and on August 1st I began my bike ride from Canmore to Montreal — over 4,000 kilometers — to raise awareness and funds for mental health support for people in the mountains. You can track my ride here: https://live.garmin.com/giosbikeride
A little over a year ago, I survived something that changed my life forever. I was caught in an avalanche that left me with a broken back, a broken pelvis, a broken hand, and a long road of surgeries and recovery ahead of me. I went through spinal fusion surgery not knowing if I’d ever walk again. Somehow, I did.
But while my body healed, my mind has been a different story. I carry the weight every day of knowing others caught in avalanches like mine did not survive. I struggle with survivor’s guilt — and with the pain I know I caused my family. Seeing my mother walk into my hospital room and break down because she didn’t know if her son would ever walk again was the hardest pain of all.
Living and playing in the mountains brings so much joy, but it can come with heavy mental burdens too — loss, trauma, guilt, isolation. It’s something many of us don’t talk about enough.
Now, I’m ready to push my body again — not just for myself, but for everyone who struggles in silence. This ride is for all of us carrying invisible scars from the places we love.
All donations will go directly to Mountain Muskox, a peer support circle in the Bow Valley for people who have experienced trauma and loss in the mountains. They do incredible work creating safe, understanding spaces for people like me — people like us — to talk, heal, and remember we’re not alone.
I’m asking for your help to turn my miles into something meaningful. Every dollar goes towards helping Mountain Muskox to continue supporting our community when it needs it most.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me ride this journey — not just across Canada, but towards hope and healing for everyone who calls the mountains home.
