Paws for Pumpkin

Hi everyone. I am raising money for Pumpkin. Pumpkin came into my work as a 9 month old boxer mix that was hit by car. She had a shattered pelvis, a broken femur, pulmonary contusions, and a pneumothorax. Her owners were unable to afford her care and no rescues were willing to take her on. Their option at this was euthanasia.

This happens more than I would like to admit. It is one of the biggest down falls of my career. Most days, we cry, take a moment and move on to the next patient. Because they all need our help.

This particular day, her doctor and I were unable to let this puppy be euthanized. So we had her surrendered to us. I am not sure what came over me. There was an instant connection with this girl. From the beginning, she knew her doctor and I were her people.

Pumpkin has had a long couple of months. After her lungs were healed enough, she went for her first of many surgeries. Hours later, her pelvis and femur were repaired. She has had to have her femur repair adjusted when she showed signs of pain and then the pin removed. She may further need an additional surgery on her femur. We are still waiting to see how she does with rehabilitation and physical therapy.

I think the biggest surprise was when we discovered she was pregnant! That's right you read that correctly. Pumpkin turn out to be a Momma. She went into labor early Christmas morning and had an emergency c-section. With her pelvis, not completely healed we did not want to risk her life or the babies.

Despite all of this, she has remained the sweetest, loving girl. She doesn't let her issues slow her down or affect her life. Toys, squeeze cheese, foster brother and her moms are just a few of her favs. Oh and clothes. This girl loves her shirts and jackets

This is a huge financial undertaking and one that was made with our hearts. The goal is to get her back to her healthy puppy self. There have been many challenges with getting her back to fully functional. There is a possibility that she might not be 100% in her one leg. What I do know is that she will be given every chance and opportunity to get there. She has a huge team behind her. Crown Veterinary Specialists is her home away from home. Everyone there is working hard to give her the best chance at living her best life.
