Mebane Chess Park
Donation protected
Let's add a Chess Park to Mebane! A tournament worthy chess park requires a minimum of 10 tables. This would provide a place for avid chess players, as well as inspire new chess players and chess clubs, encouraging and attracting chess tournaments.
Dedicated in loving memory of Patrick Joseph Kelly, my best friend and my brother. He was a son, a father, an uncle and a friend to all who knew him. He is missed more than words and he deserves a place to be remembered. Patrick was an avid, talented chess player who often complained about there not being any public chess tables near by where he could test his skills and meet new people. With your support, my brother can inspire new chess players, clubs and tournaments; being remembered in a way I think he'd be proud of.
Chess has been clinically proven to improve the lives of all ages. From increasing creativity, reading skills, concentration, to raising IQs, growing neuron dendrites, developing the prefrontal cortex - the area of the brain responsible for planning, judgment, self-control - leading to better decision making and preventing and improving Alzheimer’s and dementia. Just to name a few.
Proposed to be located at the Mebane Community Arts Center, near the playground at the the entrance to the ball fields. This location would also make it a great place to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions.
