Last Monday night, my dear friend Victoria and her family endured the most horrifying crisis imaginable when her husband Aaron collapsed and was rushed to the ER after suffering an aortic aneurysm. Thankfully, after emergency open heart surgery and a nightmarish wait, his life was saved and as of today he has already made his way out of the ICU. While we are all endlessly grateful for his miraculous recovery, there are many challenges ahead for his recuperation. Aaron is a loving husband to Victoria, a dedicated father to their 4 year old daughter Mia, a talented artist and self-employed entrepreneur, and beloved friend, son, and brother. As strong as he is, few families can ever be ready for this kind of sudden and devastating medical emergency even with the aid of insurance. The Patrick family will have to face unexpected hardships in the coming months as they navigate childcare, missed income, and essential medical care; for those of us who know and care for them, easing their financial burden is a simple way to show them the compassion that they have always abundantly given.
