Patricia Roye 'Aunty Pat'

Hi, my name is Lauren, and I’m reaching out during the hardest time of my life.

On the 4th of April 2025, my beautiful mum known to many as Aunty Pat passed away from COPD after a lifetime of smoking. She adopted me when I was six years old, after my birth mum died from a drug overdose. I never imagined I would lose two mums to addiction and be facing life without parents so young.

My mum dedicated her life to fostering. She raised me and my two brothers as her own and gave a safe, loving home to more than 100 children over the years. She was the most giving, selfless woman I’ve ever known. If she had £5 left to her name, she’d give it to someone else.

In January, I left my job to become her full-time carer. I wanted to be there for her the way she had always been there for me. Although we knew she was unwell, her passing was sudden and unexpected, especially after many reassurances from doctors that her condition wasn't yet life-threatening.

Now, I’m trying to navigate life without her while facing funeral costs I cannot cover alone, the risk of losing our family home, legal fees, and debts. I’ve never been good at asking for help, but right now, I don’t have a choice. I want to give her the kind of send-off that reflects the love she gave so freely to so many and to have a way to find my feet again.
