As many people know, our beautiful friend Pat has been dealing with a serious debilitating health issue for over a year now. Since Christmas Eve, 2020, infections have continued to wreak havoc on her body. She endured 3 surgeries early on - including an emergency surgery to receive a heart pacemaker- which were followed by hospital stays and extended rehab stints to address the infections and serious complications caused by those infections. She had a brief period of time last spring/summer when she was “well enough” to be home to continue her slow recovery. Sad-to-say, late last year, she had a set-back, was hospitalized and went back to the nursing/rehab facility. Sadder-to-say, Pat is still at the Villa Rancho Bernardo facility today - these several months later. She remains far from ready to go home as she has not progressed enough to live outside the 24-hour care environment. At this point, she is unable to walk - in fact, she can’t even get out of bed without assistance. Among other complications, she has open wounds that will just not heal. It’s just terrible the toll this has taken and continues to take on Pat’s well-being.
Also, unfortunately Medicare benefits covering the cost for Pat’s stay at the facility run out on March 11th! I think we all can imagine - if not know first hand - how extremely high the cost of 24-hour inpatient care is. After the 11th, the financial burden of $338 per day will be on Pat and Fred. That’s over $10,000 per month! And this is in addition to medication costs. It’s crucial that Pat remain at the facility for as long as necessary and of course, her adoring husband Fred will exhaust any funds he has to support the recovery of his “Tricia” - the love of his life! The fear is that the day will come sooner than later when funds will be scarce and Pat will be forced to check out of the skilled nursing/rehab facility - the setting she absolutely needs to be in to have the best chance of regaining a stable level of functioning. This is an opportunity for us to help alleviate this financial worry in the equation of an already worrisome situation. I ask for your participation in this effort to support Pat and Fred. No donation is too small - I mean that sincerely. Thank you!
