Patrice began his life with a difficult birth. Due to a severe shoulder dystocia he suffered oxygen deprivation to his brain. Patrice has come along way and is making strides everyday, but he still has far to go in meeting his developmental milestones. We have utilized many different healing modalities to help him such as physical therapy, craniosacral therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Our path has led us to the Anat Baniel Method (ABM) and our plan is to start treatment as soon as possible. ABM is a gentle method that works specifically to awaken the brain of the special needs child and help it to form new neural connections and patterns taking them beyond their current limitations. To get started with this method we will need to travel to Melbourne, FL twice a month for 5 days at a time for ABM Intensives, plus a weekly session in between Intensives. For two months of this therapy, the cost will be $5150 plus travel expenses, conservatively estimated to $2000. After extensive research, I believe whole-heartedly that this therapy could change everything for Patrice. Update 7/31/17: Thanks to the donations received so far, we've been able to afford 6 weekend mini-intensives and one full week long ABM intensive for Patrice over the last 2 months! He has improved so much already and we are so excited for the improvements he will make with continued ABM lessons!
We are getting ready for his second week long ABM intensive, this time in NYC with an advanced practitioner. (See most recent "update" for more on that.) Our current need is assistance with the $2400 therapy cost for this intensive. While the advanced practitioner charges more per hour than our more local Melbourne practitioner, we feel he will get much more out of the time with an advanced pratitioner. And yes, time is of the essence, not only for this mama who is expecting another baby in a few short months, but also for Patrice, who is so ready to be mobile and more independent.
