Patrice's New Liver- Update

Spende geschützt

**UPDATE** Thank you to everyone who donated to help my mom with her liver expenses. I wanted to give an update that after 2 years it's doing great!

Sadly, my mom is back in the hospital again with growing medical expenses. On 2/11/23, she went back into the hospital, feeling sick and fatigued. Doctors stated she had appendicitis and were planning to have it removed on the 13th. So thankful for all her surgeons at Jefferson; but when they went into surgery, it had already ruptured and that's a huge deal. An hour's surgery turned into 5 hours. On 2/14, her team of doctors realized she was having a lot of fluid building up in her body making it hard for her to breathe and ultimately had to put her on a ventilator and continuous dialysis to help her body get all that fluid out. Back in January, Patrice was also diagnosed with congestive heart failure (including Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Atrial fibrillation). All this stress from a simple surgery wasn't enough for her body to fight. On 2/17, they finally were able to bring her off the ventilator and a few days later off the continuous dialysis. Her body was doing what it needed to do and starting to wake up after 3 days of sleep. On 2/23, I got a call that her body just couldn't keep up removing all that fluid and it was going around her heart again so she had to go back on a ventilator and dialysis. This second was stressful since she was doing so well a few days prior. Thankfully on 2/25, she came off the ventilator and dialysis again. Her heart was stable enough and with the help of the dialysis, her kidneys were starting to function properly again.

As my mom put it, her liver transplant was a walk in the park compared to this experience. She is finally out of ICU after 3 weeks and is slowly starting to get better and get all the additional fluid out of her body. Medical bills have started to trickle in again and any donations would be greatly appreciated since my mom is currently not working. It's unsure when she'll be coming home and will have to attend rehab again to regain her strength back.

My mom Patrice was diagnosed with NASH/ NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) in November 2015. While being told a liver transplant was a possibility in 20 years, we never expected she would need one only 5 years later. In the start of early summer 2020, she started to take a turn for the worse. Patrice was needing to get fluid, also known as ascites drained every couple days as a result of her failing liver. This was the beginning of the end, and we didn't know how much time was left. After the last ascites draining in August, her doctors told her it was time for her to come in to the hospital.

Patrice was gifted a new liver in August of 2020. Once she got her new liver, she was sent to rehab to learn how to do everything again; i.e- shower, walk, learn how to dress, generally day to day living, etc.

Raising this money will help my mom greatly. It will be used for medical bills and remaining treatments and expenses. Medical bills are starting to trickle in. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated.
