Operation Period and Affordable and Accessible Sanitation for Women (AASW) are teaming together for International Period Month to serve those who menstruate!
During the month of May, AASW is getting reusable packages of menstrual products to over 1,300 girls in Kenya. And to date, Operation Period has distributed over 180,000 products to those in need.

Since 2014, May 28th has been recognized as Menstrual Hygiene Day, a day to bring awareness to menstrual inequity.
At Operation Period, we usually celebrate the week surrounding MH Day as MH Week. In 2019, with our partner AASW, we hosted 15 events in 4 countries during MH Week.
This year, with 10 partners, we are naming the month of May as International Period Month and celebrating with virtual events every night of the month. We are hosting Instagram Lives every evening, along with a few digital events on Zoom and Facebook Live.
For International Period Month, we are encouraging three calls to action via our campaign: Share, Create, and Donate.
SHARE - We are hosting virtual events every day of May on our social media and on Zoom. Every day, we will be interviewing people from all backgrounds to share their period stories. In return, we are encouraging folks to share their period stories on social media with the hashtag #PassThePad.
CREATE - We have created a period-inspired art challenge that will be announced the first weekend of May on Instagram. We are encouraging visual artists, graphic designers, spoken word poets, makeup artists, musicians, and other creatives to submit to our art challenge throughout the month of May with the hashtag #PassThePad.
DONATE - We have created this emergency relief fund to pass the pad forward and provide menstrual products to frontline workers, homeless people, and low-income folks. With our partner AASW, our goal is to provide 28,000 products, both reusable and disposable, to those in need from this fund, as menstrual cycles are on average 28 days long.
But we need your help to accomplish this goal. Our goal of $10,000 will allow us to distribute 28,000 products to those in need.
Of the 28,000 products:
7,000 will be reusable and going to folks in need in Kenya and Tanzania - distributed by AASW
21,000 will be disposable and going to people in need in the U.S., particularly California and Oregon - distributed by Operation Period
