Team Revival: A Game-Changing Opportunity

I recently had the privilege of meeting the incredible girls of the Parikrma Football Team. When I learned that financial difficulties might force the team to disband, I knew I had to step in and help bring them back to life.

Why Parikrma?

In February 2024, I traveled to India as part of a volunteer program with my day job at LSEG. During my visit, I had the honor of seeing firsthand the extraordinary work of the Parikrma Humanity Foundation, an NGO founded by the inspiring Dr. Shukla Bose in 2003.

While there, I met the talented young women of the Parikrma Football Team. Their passion, determination, and the confidence they gained from being part of the team were truly inspiring. But when I learned that the foundation could no longer support the team due to financial constraints, I couldn’t stop thinking about how crucial it is to give these girls the opportunity to continue. And that’s why I’m launching my first-ever GoFundMe campaign: to raise the funds needed to revive this life-changing program.

The Impact of Parikrma

The Parikrma Foundation’s work is transformative. It provides opportunities for children from underserved communities to change the course of their lives. The Parikrma Girls Football Team has done more than just excel in sports; it has empowered young women to feel equal to their privileged peers.

The girls have learned that in football, what matters is talent, teamwork, and discipline—no matter where you come from. This message has resonated deeply, and it’s why they’ve dedicated themselves to the sport. In 2019, the foundation created the Parikrma Girls Football Team, offering young women the chance to continue pursuing football after graduating. Since then, they’ve achieved remarkable success, consistently finishing in the top three of the Karnataka State League and even reaching the Super Division. In 2023-2024, they finished second out of 17 teams.

But it’s not just about football. These girls are changing their communities. They’ve become role models, helping to shift societal attitudes in the slums they come from. What was once a struggle for parents to accept their daughters playing football is now seen as a source of pride, as these young women now support their families and inspire others to follow their dreams.

It is because Parikrma believes in equal opportunity for girls that they have also created the Parikrma Girls Football Team in early 2019. The Karnataka State Football Association welcomed the idea of Parikrma encouraging young girls into football and they gave them great support. Shukla Bose, Founder-CEO of Parikrma was invited to be in the football committee for the state.

Parikrma Girls FC gives opportunity to senior students, alumni, and other girls from similarly under-served communities to participate in the state league. Since then, the girls have excelled, finishing in the top 3 spots each year. Based on their track record, the team was also promoted to playing in the Super Division. In 22-23, they finished fourth among the 17 participating teams. In 23-24, they improved their performance further and finished second in the league.

The Girls FC were not only excelling in the sport but they have become role models in the community. They are helping us to create a cultural and social change in the slums they come from. The parents who hesitated to send their girls for practice early in the morning wearing shorts are today happy because the girls are now supporting the family. The Path Forward

I’m determined to help revive this incredible team. By June 2025, I hope to raise enough funds to fully sponsor the team for the next three years, ensuring they’re ready to compete in the next season. These funds will cover:

• Coaches, physios, and other essential staff

• Practice ground hire

• Gym facilities

• Football gear and equipment

• Housing and travel for outstation players

• Nutrition and meals

• Miscellaneous expenses
