Paramedic needs surgery for rare Brain Tumor

Spende geschützt
I cannot remember my brother ever wanting to be ANYTHING else.  As a kid, he watched repeats of Emergency!   He read every bit of information he could on emergency medicine and the early days of paramedic programs he could get his hands on....He was a Pioneer of sorts, in his own right.

At 19 he graduated from Akron City Hospital's Paramedic program. He scored the highest in the state and received many accolades from the Governor and Mayor. He went on to become an instructor of EMS and a Fireman for Franklin Township and Copley Township. Like many firefighters and medics he sustained injuries and he took a disability/early retirement in his 40's.

In 20014, he lost his wife, Jerri to cancer. He was by her side for 4 years. 4 months later, he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. He was devastated as it caused him many trips to the ER to control nausea, vertigo and pain. It's called an Acoustic Neuroma . Chuck went for consultations at University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic and Ohio State. Most recently his Neurological team has been at Metro Health Center. Only about 1 in 100,000 people develop these tumors. His condition has worsened, resulting in hearing loss, vision loss, paralysis on one side of his face and severe pain and nausea. He has been referred to The House Institute- in Los Angeles, CA to have the tumor removed. This will greatly improve his quality of life. However, it will require a 2 week stay in Los Angeles with his insurance not paying for room, board, flights and very expensive medications. He will have astronomical medical expenses.

I will be going with him. Chuck's two daughters- Julia, who works for NASA in Houston cannot leave due to covid and the quarantine issues; Jordan who just graduated from Kent State would be subject to same COVID regulations and cannot leave her job that long.

Chuck is my best friend.  As kids we were always close, and when we lost our parents our bond tightened. As you can imagine, It's not easy to live with adult siblings. It should be quite an adventure flying to Los Angeles in the middle of Covid with your sister!!!! LOL...

If you feel compelled, please give a few bucks to help him out. Chuck is still a hero to me and many others.   Just yesterday, he helped a neighborhood kid who was bit by a snake. Even took his vital signs! Chuck would love to help his community as a paramedic (especially those who are less fortunate) However, this tumor has robbed him of that as well. Honestly, I'm just lucky because my brother is the nicest guy I know. I appreciate any help or prayers you can send us.

Any funds left over will be used for follow up appointments, medications or donated to a community Paramedic program that Chuck would love to volunteer with once he's feeling better.

With Gratitude,
Suzanne Worrell and family
