Hurricane Relief for PR FAMILY

We are raising money for our cousin, Linda Colon Matos and her family. They live in the San Juan area and, like so many others, suffered great loss during Hurricane Maria. More than 2 months later, here's what their street looks like at night...pitch darkness, except for car tail lights!

Over the last three years, "Lily" opened her home to Yaron so he could regularly travel to care for his mother, who recently died from Alzheimer's, dementia and assorted complications of those diseases. Lily was his rock...as well as his eyes and ears on the ground, particularly while he was on the mainland.

Now its our turn to help her. Normally, we're not 'fundraiser' kind of folk. We happily give to causes we believe in, but until now, couldn't imagine asking for this kind of help ourselves. Many of our friends and family have asked where they should donate. Based on what we've seen on the news (lack of movement of resources and bureaucratic red tape), we've decided to help on a more local, personal level, by setting up this fund.

Your help will have a real, lasting impact on the lives of this kind, generous family. Our goal is to provide some of the basics to help them slowly return to a 'normal' life. Clearly that takes on a whole new meaning in a post-Hurricane environment.

So far, we have bought them solar lights and a gas stove, which will be delivered and installed before Christmas. With your support, we hope to get them a generator, which will provide power for lighting and refrigeration, as well as enable Lily to re-establish her sewing business -- a source of family income that ceased when the hurricane struck. Any funds collected beyond that will be put towards a water filtration system for their home.
