Ewen Murray's pancreatic cancer treatment
Spende geschützt
Hi my name is Nicola and I have decided to set up this page to help to raise money towards medical treatment for my wonderful brother in law, Ewen. Ewen and my sister, Louise, have been married many years and have two amazing children. Ewen and Louise were a huge part of the community within South Shields, for well over a decade where they ran a coffee shop, Alderman's where they made many friends for life.
Our heartbreak began back in August 21 when Ewen was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. At this stage surgery was not an option and he was offered FOLFIRNOX which is the most effective chemotherapy treatment for pancreatic cancer. Ewen has had ten cycles of this treatment, but it is now not working anymore and the tumours are growing.
Ewens consultant at the Freeman hospital is now discussing further options with him.
There are currently two first line treatment options which the NHS will fund, these are the FOLFIRINOX and GEMCITABINE with the nab-paclitaxel (ABRAXANE). Because Ewen has had the Folfirinox, the NHS will not provide funding for the combination of Gemcitabine with nab- pacitaxel. They will fund the Gemcitabine alone, but this is not as effective as the combination therapy.
We are hoping to raise money to help contribute towards the combination therapy as this gives Ewen the best chance at stabilising the cancer. This is an option Ewens oncogist at the Freeman supports.
Ewen is a true inspiration to us all with his upbeat attitude and determination to not let cancer take over his life. Myself and the rest of our family could not be more proud of how Ewen has coped with this horrific illness. The ongoing support and prayers Louise and Ewen have received has been so appreciated. As a family we would be grateful for any help towards the cost of this treatment.
Thank you to each and everyone of you. X
