Dale was diagnosed with a grade 4, glioblastoma brain tumor after some mild symptoms of weakness in his right arm & leg. He first noticed those in late February 2017 while on a business trip in Tucson, AZ.
He was fortunate to be living in OKC where one of the nation's leading neurosurgeons for this kind of cancer (Michael Sughrue) has his practice.
Dale had surgery on May 5, 2017, to remove the tumor, but the surgery affected his right side even more. Immediately after surgery, he could barely lift his hand or leg. He stayed about four days in the hospital and afterwards was moved to Jim Thorpe South for about two weeks of therapy/rehab.
He came home on May 24th and began outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapies at Bowling Green in Midwest City. He will begin chemo & radiation soon, when insurance tells us how much of that we have to pay ($8,000 is the expected upfront cost of the first round of chemo).
Dale also signed up for a clinical trial vaccine as part of his after-surgery treatment. He had a blood draw on June 13 to remove some platelets for the vaccine. He will be doing the clinical trial after he finishes his first round of chemo and his radiation, which are all a part of standard treatment.
Dale is currently in a wheelchair most of the time - relearning to walk and do daily activities with his right arm/hand.
We can use help financially to pay all of the medical bills (beginning with the $8,000 for chemo NOW) and also with rides to his radiation appointments, which will be daily for a 45-day period. Members of the MWC Rotary have volunteered to take turns providing rides from MWC to the Stephenson Cancer Center at OU Med, but we would like to only have to ask individuals to volunteer one time.
