Refugee Aid in Lesvos Greece

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

Over the past few months, many of you have seen the coverage of refugees arriving off the coast of Greece in Lesvos.  These refugees include men and women, children and infants arriving on flimsy rafts loaded with people and it is a heartbreaking scene.  Any single person could be our mother or father, daughter or son, our sister or brother or our niece or nephew journeying far distances in search of a life of peace and stability and their plight is not an isolated one.  Over 1,000 refugees are arriving daily and resources are scant.  There is no real government aid and the main efforts to assist once people have arrived are volunteer led.  As a result,  I  will be spending  early January in Lesvos volunteering my time with other volunteers helping the refugees and I am asking for everyone’s assistance to donate- any amount will be appreciated.  I want to ensure that we can help in any way we can to keep people clothed, fed, and kept warm especially with the winter months upon us.  I have taken care of my own travel expenses, including flight, hotel, and food and all donations will be for the refugees.  Donations will go towards warm clothes, food, sleeping bags, feminine hygiene products, underwear, and other basic necessities.  In an effort to support the local economy, these items will be purchased in Greece.   I will send out updates so you can see what  your generous donations have helped to purchase so please send me your information to [email redacted] if you would like to be added and be a part of this experience.

My goal is to make sure refugees are greeted with warmth and kindness. In an effort to make your donations more personal and to show the refugees that people around the world are supporting and thinking of them, please feel free to include a message to the refugees.  If you would like to send a longer one and/or include a picture, feel free to email me your message.  I will then have my Arabic and Farsi writing friends  translate your messages and add them to personalized cards, which I will distribute once I am there to the families, especially children and teenagers.

We are all accidents of birth and geography and by being born here rather than there coupled with chance circumstances, we are awarded basic privileges that others are not.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated and thank you for your efforts!  In addition, please share with your family, friends, and networks.
