My Mission Trip to Kenya

Donation protected
My name is Julia O'Brien and throughout the past couple of months that I have been a part of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), I have been able to gain a multitude of new perspectives as well as a stronger understanding of faith and how it can change attitudes for the better. With this change in attitude comes the opportunity to think of others and learn to give. The leader of FCA and football coach, Gary Morello, extended an invitation to grasp an opportunity to serve others and to build relationships amongst children, while strengthening their community and education. On this trip with Crossing Thresholds, we will travel to Kenya and provide aid to the Kibera Slum. There are many ways that I could spend the summer before I head off to college and I am excited to be able to take this opportunity to make a difference in hundreds of children’s lives.

Crossing Threshold's mission is two-fold.

“First, we work with local community leaders to build schools where they are desperately needed. Learning is every child’s right. The research is not ambiguous. When children go to school, they have a greater chance to live more productive and purposeful lives.Second, we facilitate travel opportunities for paying volunteers. These volunteers come to our schools to contribute their time and talent. They come to bear witness to the hardships and struggles of children worldwide. They come to connect, and to discover that making a difference is not always what you think. Our mission is tactile, tangible and spiritual.” As a result of a stove fire in a nearby "home", one of the recently completed primary schools burnt down in the middle of the night in December 2017. The school had just been completed in June 2017, and when all was said and done, the fire took out hundreds of homes and left the school in ashes. Nothing is left except the foundation.

There is an overwhelming amount of devastation throughout the community, but there is only one answer to this devastation, to rebuild.

This summer, I will be going to Kenya to help rebuild the school and connect deeply to the children and teachers.

Please join me in making this rebuild possible, because the 300+ children who attended this school deserve it.

I would like to thank you all in advanced, ALL money raised here goes directly into the rebuild. Please know your donations will change lives.
