At this time, all of the Oyster Bay employees have received their designated share of the funds that were raised from the GoFundMe campaign, as well as from direct contributions. The employees are grateful and thankful for the help. We were all especially moved by the deep-felt sentiment and prayers for their safety and well- being expressed on the GoFundMe page and elsewhere.
The funds were distributed to 151 employees who had an immediate need to repair their homes and property and other needs related to their recovery from Irma. The amount distributed was $164,723. Following is an accounting of the funds that were contributed to the Hurricane relief for OBBR Staff:
$165,491 – Total Collections received from all GoFundMe $12,500 – Total Collections from direct contributions ($13,268) – (Less): Processing fees assessed from GoFundMe
$164,723 – Net available proceeds for distribution
St. Maarten continues to recover at a surprising rate. The people are fixing up their homes and businesses and the resorts and hotels are getting back on their feet with many opening as soon as possible. Some of the restaurants have reopened and many are on the way. Some of the supermarkets and many corner stores are reopened along with the gas stations. The banks and the ATM’s are open. Power and water are available to most of the Island. Daily commercial flights from American Airlines and Delta, among others, have resumed. The children are going to school. Infinity Restaurant and Bar plan to have a Grand Opening on November 1.
There has been much accomplished in the last month and much left to do. The population of the Island and our employees are resolute to restore St. Maarten completely.
