Our Haven Community Gardens & Farm️
We are raising funds to expand our current efforts towards creating an abundance of resources for community members. We are Building sustainable food and land access for our community members www.ourhavenavl.org
The VISION: We want to make naturally growing food readily available & easily accessible for our BIPOC & LGBTQ+ family. BIPOC & LGBTQ+ Community members have been discriminated against & marginalized for too long in this country, especially our Black Trans Family. In order to build sustainable, non-exploitative, community-controlled futures for community members & allies more broadly, we must own our own land & resources. Together we can end poverty, hunger, and the reliance on corporate grocery stores in our communities. It’s time for us to make better opportunities available for us & give our people a better chance at success.
We want to expand our current efforts towards growing fresh organic food for our communities & significantly reducing the amount of money community members spend at corporate grocery stores. We can create an abundance of natural Fruits, Vegetables & much more, that we can use to help our people stay nourished & healthy. We can teach each other to steward land in ways that honor our Indigenous family, in ways that honor the Earth, & in ways that honor our mind/body/spirit.
We are inspired by our people across the South, & across the world who have been working towards transformative land-based futures. This work is actively strengthening our communities by building a world not based on exploitation, policing, & profit but instead based on well-resourced communities, transformative justice, and Black Trans and Queer Liberation. We imagine ourselves as a part of this ever-growing network of community-based land projects and campaigns.
THE GOAL: The goal is to continue to expand the Our Haven Community Gardens & purchase farmland. We will need land, pots, soil, seeds, gardening supplies, green house supplies & farming equipment. We also want to create safe housing on the farm for members in our community that may need help with shelter.
