Our IVF Journey for Baby S. Third Times a Charm!
Donación protegida
Hey everyone, welcome to our IVF Journey, Part 3! Our names are Zachery and Amanda Stroup and we're from Spring Valley, Ohio. We've been happily married for almost 10 years and recently just moved into our second home. We're excited to announce that we're giving parenthood another try with our third IVF attempt!
Our journey began as soon as we were married. We knew we wanted to start a family and couldn't wait to get pregnant. After a year of trying on our own with no pregnancy, something was amiss. Speaking with our OBGYN and 6 unsuccessful months taking two different fertility medications, we were referred to the fertility specialists at Kettering Medical Center. After many rounds of tests, ultrasounds, painful pokes and prods, we were diagnosed with PCOS, severe endometriosis, and other fertility issues.
Thus began our first foray into IVF. The chance of getting pregnant naturally was no longer an option for us and with our complications, the fertility specialists recommended IVF. The first step was surgery to remove the endometriosis and ovarian cysts. This was followed by stimulating medications to prepare Amanda’s egg follicles for retrieval, the retrieval itself, and finally ending up with 3 embryos. We transferred 1 embryo and 10 days later got the exciting news that we were actually pregnant! At this point Amanda was taking 19 oral medications and 3 shots a day.
Our worst fears were realized 6 weeks into our pregnancy; we were having a miscarriage. To say it was the worst day of our lives is an understatement. The physical and emotional toll was devastating. Despite the tragedy of losing our baby we were steadfast that we wanted to become parents and had another chance at pregnancy with our remaining embryos.
For the second round of IVF our fertility specialist recommended transferring the remaining two embryos together. This was supposed to increase our chances of getting pregnant again (with a slightly higher risk of getting twins.) Unfortunately, we were struck with another devastating blow; we did not get pregnant and we had no remaining embryos. The physical, emotional, and financial toll (well over $20,000 at this point) had finally broken us to the point where we needed a break. This process had played out for nearly three years and for a young newlywed couple was quite a looming mountain to overcome.
Here we are 7 years later. We find ourselves in our new home, in our thirties, and our spirits renewed. After many hours of conversation and prayer, we both know that we want to be called mom and dad. As the old saying goes, "third times a charm." We're hoping that with the support of family and friends, the Grace of God, and your support we can finally reach our dream of becoming parents and holding our sweet little baby in our arms. Thank you for joining us on our IVF journey.
