***Update***

Thank you so much for making this all a reality!  I have some exciting news to share. PPP received a $3500.00 dollar for dollar donation challenge to get us restarted and to purchase the extrusion machine and molds to produce our first product, plastic patio pavers. We have until the end of June to take advantage of this generous donation.

The donor wishes to remain anonymous, but would like to challenge the community in supporting PPP. Thank you so much for your generous support in these challenging times.

Hello, My name is Dave Marquis, the founder of Puna Precious Plastic and I, and many others are very concerned with the amount of plastics that are killing our environment.

Here on the Big Island of Hawai’i, the county government has decided to stop collecting and recycling all plastics.  https://hawaiizerowaste.org/site-content/uploads/2019-10-15-Changes-to-2-Bin-Recycling-Program-reissued-press-release.pdf The county will be taking everyone's plastics that they have thrown in the trash and bury them in the public land fill.  Currently, that means trucking East Hawaii's trash over the saddle to the Kona landfill.

Our idea has been to set up and run a plastic recycling center in the District of Puna, Hawaii, based on the Precious Plastic idea, where clean plastic recyclables are sorted, shredded and formed into products, or the clean shredded plastic can also be sold to other organizations.

Puna Precious Plastic will need to have several fundraisers to get to the ultimate goal of a solar powered recycling / manufacturing facility based in the District of Puna, Hawaii, which will provide recycled plastic building materials and much needed jobs.

Our vision of a recycling center will achieve these five objectives:

To help address the plastic crisis here in Hawaii.
To make everyday useful items with recycled plastic. (Building Material - lumber, building blocks, fence posts, stepping stones).
To address the plastic crisis and the a housing crisis by diverting plastic from the landfill and creating affordable and durable building materials locally.
To get kids involved in learning about plastic recycling and to experience real-world problem solving.
To give back to the community as much as possible, so that we can make Hawaii a better place for all.
We believe that once we are up and running that Puna Precious Plastic will provide much needed, quality jobs to the residents of Puna. We believe that the community also needs to be involved as a few people will never be able to handle the plastic waste that we are now faced with.

Puna Precious Plastic will be partnering with local communities and local businesses to catch single use recyclable plastics before they enter the waste stream. Puna Precious Plastic will also be partnering with local schools to educate the students on plastics, and how we can recycle them into products that we need.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to buy a Extrusion Machine and a container for dry storage.
