Oscar’s Sagittal Craniosynotosis

Donation protected
Oscar was diagnosed with Sagittal Craniosynostosis when he was around 3 months. He is nearly 11 months and is due to go into Birmingham Children's Hospital for Skull surgery on the 23rd August 2022.

Craniosynostosis is a birth defect in which the bones in a baby's skull join together too early. This happens before the baby's brain is fully formed. As the baby's brain grows the skull can become more misshapen.

If left untreated, craniosynostosis can lead to serious complications, including: Head deformity, seizures and increased pressure on the brain.

The deformation of Oscar’s skull has already began and surgery is needed to prevent any future complications. The surgery involves removing a strip of the skull to help increase the amount of room for the brain to grow, improve the skull shape, and reduce the risk of the sagittal suture closing again. The surgery will be closely monitored by; craniofacial (skull and face) surgeons, neuro (brain) surgeons, ophthalmologists (eye specialists), geneticists and speech and language therapists with other specialists brought in as needed. This surgery can take up to 7 hours and Oscar will have a scar from ear to ear. Recovery is going to be hard and intense.

Help is needed.

Due to the surgery being in Birmingham, we will have to make 4/5 hour trips each way multiple times (soaring petrol prices doesn’t help) A hotel near the hospital for up to a week if the Ronald McDonald’s house is full (we will not know until the day of the operation). Service stops, food while there and anything we need to make Oscar as comfortable as possible. I, Jess (Oscar’s mum) will also have to take up to a month off work which is more than likely going to be unpaid leave so paying our bills is going to be a struggle. Shaun (Oscar’s dad) is self employed so will only be able to take off the minimum of days as he isn’t entitled to anything while off work.

ANY amount will be greatly appreciated and will be used only for Craniosynostosis purposes, any money left over will be donated to either The Ronald McDonald’s House or Birmingham Children’s hospital (or split between both)

Times are hard for us as a family with Oscar’s operation coming up, stress and worry is eating is up. We really didn’t want this to be an option but with a lot of thought we couldn’t think of anything else we could do to raise the funds needed.

Thank you so much if you choose to fund us.
