ORS Coastline Challenge

The ORS team are aiming to raise funds for North Westmeath Hospice by walking, running, and cycling our way around the Coastline of Ireland. This is a total of 3,171km and our staff will complete it virtually to raise much-needed funds and show our appreciation for the great work being carried out by the Hospice. There is one catch, however, as we will be completing the challenge in just one month, through the month of May.

The North Westmeath Hospice palliative care team focus on supporting people of all ages to live well with an illness that is life limiting, enabling them to achieve the best quality of life possible. It is about treating every patient with dignity and respect, helping them to plan for the future, whilst also supporting families and loved ones.

Their aim is to provide a dignified death in the comfort of their own home, if desired, or in a specialist hospice bed. There are only four hospice beds currently, two in the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar and two in St. Camilllus Nursing Home, Killucan, Co. Westmeath.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Hospice Services at the Midland Regional Hospital are also involved in the care of the critically ill Covid-19 patients. The team consists of a palliative care consultant, nurse manager/team leader, specialist nurses, senior specialist physiotherapist and a senior specialist social worker.

As this specialised service is only part funded by the state, financial support and fundraising plays a vital role.
