Holiday Care Packages for Deployed Troops!
Several years ago, my friend Lorrie Rodriguez and I began sending “boodle boxes” to soldiers that are deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq at Christmas time. Lorrie is a military mom and I am a military Godmother – so you know this is very near and dear to our hearts! We have been a part of a military mom group that sends boxes throughout the year, and we help whenever there is a need. Christmas time is our BIG need! (Last year our group, in its entirety, sent over 3300 boxes for the holidays! That is a lot of BOODLE!!!).
We adopt an entire platoon every year, the number is usually around 45 soldiers, or so. We make sure that each soldier receives a box of goodies! This is SO important! The boxes contain holiday goodies, toiletries, homemade cookies, snacks, socks and letters! Lots of letters! (Those are GOLD to the soldiers!) In addition to individual Boodle Boxes, we send quite a few boxes for the whole platoon to use. This may include different sauces and condiments….have you ever tried an MRE (Meal Ready to Eat), coffee, pillows, games, books, DVD players and DVDs.
With shipping, each of the soldier boxes cost approximately $100 and the platoon boxes (5-10 additional boxes) depend on the contents.
We hope to have funds raised by the first part of November so we have time to allow time to bake, shop and pack to get the boxes out prior to ensure delivery by Christmas!
