Open Heart Surgery for mama of three

Hi, I'm Darcy and I'm asking for help for my childhood best friend, Denise Gantenbein. Denise has been having several ongoing health concerns for a few years. This summer she was diagnosed with heart valve regurgitation (the valve doesn't close fully and allows blood to flow backwards) and a thoracic aneurysm, requiring immediate open heart surgery. Unfortunately, her case requires an even more specialized surgeon, who won't be back to operating until next week. So in the meantime, she is on bed rest.

She is the mama of three beautiful girls, 6, 5 and 1. The youngest, she and her husband Aaron are currently going through the adoption process for. Aaron has run out of sick leave and is not eligible for Washington's paid family leave. Denise obviously is currently unable to work, and fears she may not even have a job to come back to after her recovery (which will take several months after surgery).

The ask: Denise and her family were, like many of us, already paycheck to paycheck when this medical catastrophe hit. Now, with the loss of her income, and the loss of Aaron's whenever he takes time to go to the hospital, or to care for their girls, they are facing a scary financial reality.

Thankfully, it seems that most, if not all of her medical bills will be covered through insurance and financial aide from the hospital. However, they will be needing help with household bills soon.
