One Love Community Fridge

Healthy Food Is A Right, Not A Privilege.

One Love Community Fridge is a community-based response to the long lines at food banks that began when Covid-19 infected thousands of New Yorkers. We watched as folks of all ages in our community risked exposure by standing in long lines at overwhelmed food banks to be able to procure food for their families.

In short, our goals:
     - Help to address immediate hunger needs & minimize food waste by partnering with local farmers
     - Support existing community fridges & add fridges close to public schools in NYC
     - Educational programs focused on the positive long-term consequences of eating nutritious foods

One Love supports existing fridges and expands these efforts to add additional fridges strategically placed close to NYC public schools. We ensure that our fridges are easily accessible to youth and their families.

More about our goals and ambitions:

Our first fridge is located on 432 Myrtle Ave, Brooklyn NY, 11205 - outside Green in BKLYN. 

Our goal is to address immediate hunger needs, minimize food waste while building on a long-term goal instilling healthy eating habits and ensuring everyone having access to fresh and nutritional food. We will partner with small local businesses and establish partnerships with local farms.

New York has the biggest public school system in the United States. In New York alone, over 150,000 children are food insecure. The connection between nutrition, health and educational performance has never been more crucial. The pandemic has hit low-income communities the hardest. 

More than 40 million families across the country are not able to feed themselves and their families. Poor diet is one of the leading causes of death in the US while about 40 percent of our food supply is being wasted. By offering free healthy food, studies show that long-term effect will help diminish the rise of preexisting conditions, and produce positive outcomes.

We need you! How can you help?

Donate - With your donation we will be able to install, stock, and maintain fridges and pantries outside Public Schools in Brooklyn. We supply fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables & pre-packed nutritional foods along with seasonal essential products.

There are other ways to support as well - Anyone can get involved.

Partner - we are looking for additional locations close to public schools.  We are also looking to partner with more farmers and food distributors.
