On the Road Again- Driver’s Rehab

Hello all! As many of you may know, I sustained a c5/c6 spinal cord injury on August 19th of 2013 that initially left me paralyzed from the chest down and in most of the muscles of my arms. Since that day, I have been working hard at creating a new life. It has been challenging, heart breaking, inspiring and fun all at once. Definitely a journey, to say the least. One of the biggest challenges is the cost of some of the more specialized and necessary rehab services. The next thing I’m aiming to tackle is driving. As Mason and I have saved to be in a position to get a vehicle safe for me, I am asking for assistance on the last little bit. My level of injury requires driver’s rehab and vehicle modifications to get me back on the road. Driver’s rehab is expensive and not covered by health insurance. An initial evaluation is $350, a behind the wheel evaluation is $850, and the actual hourly training costs $200/hour. I get discouraged at times by extra obstacles people may deal with to get their lives and independence back, and it’s not always easy to ask for help. But I am. Whether it’s with blessings, prayers, good vibes (because honestly I’m quite anxious to learn to drive again with hand controls and I’d appreciate those things!), or the capacity to help out monetarily, I am forever grateful for it all! I am looking to raise $3000 as hourly training is figured with evaluations and is not overly predictable. My intention with anything beyond what I need is to save it for future accessibility or injury related endeavors (e.g. possible modifications, supplies, or therapies needed in the future).
