ONE NEIGHBORHOOD CONNECTS: COMMUNITY WI-FI

THE PROBLEM:
The Covid-19 health crisis has brought great suffering to a Providence neighborhood that already suffers   from some of the highest poverty in Rhode Island—and average lifespans that are nearly nine years lower   than those of other Providence neighborhoods! The Olneyville neighborhood is mostly made up of Latinx   residents, many of whom are undocumented—a population that is already disproportionately impacted by   the pandemic due to lack of access to essential needs, such as Wi-Fi to attend school and fully participate     in our democracy. Access to high-speed Internet is crucial for learning, working, socializing, and accessing     important services. The pandemic has shuttered libraries, coffee shops, community centers, and other         public places that generally offer free Wi-Fi. 

Children and families need - and deserve - reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi as soon as possible.   

If we can raise $74,600  by September 1, we will  have this project launched by October 1!

OUR SOLUTION:
We believe that high-quality Wi-Fi should be accessible to everyone as a public utility.
With ONE Neighborhood Connects: Community Wi-Fi, we will create a mesh Wi-Fi network that will cover 5,000,000 square feet of Olneyville (about half the whole neighborhood and roughly two-thirds of all
residents!).  By raising $200,000 we will be able to purchase and install the necessary equipment. 


WE HAVE A GENEROUS DONOR WHO HAS PLEDGED TO MATCH DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR UP TO         $100,000!  WE HAVE ALREADY RAISED $22,400.  THAT MEANS WE ONLY HAVE $77,400 TO GO!

We can solve this major problem together—but we need your help right now to realize this dream. 

HOW WE WILL DO IT:
With ONE NB Connects: Community Wi-Fi, ONE Neighborhood Builders will create a Wi-Fi mesh 
network.  To achieve reliable coverage, we will erect 9 access points on the roofs of 12 strategically located
properties owned by ONE|NB in the neighborhood.  The equipment has a shelf-life of at least five years.
