Olivia's Elmhurst Ballet School Summer Program Journey

Hi, my name is Olivia and I am 13 years old.

I am a passionate dancer and over the past few years I have been working really hard to improve my skills as a ballerina and all-rounded dancer, while still keeping a strong focus on my academics.

I consider myself very lucky to have parents who have always supported my dance in so many ways, giving everything that they have and more, and I am so thankful for their efforts over the years. I'm also very grateful to my extended family, who have chipped in last year and continue to do so this year, making it possible for me to continue dancing despite the rising cost of living.

Last year - with the help of my incredible teachers at Annette Roselli Dance Academy - I achieved my best RAD exam results to date (High Distinction in Intermediate Foundation) and got through to the finals round of RAD's annual Jacqueline Morland Awards. I also received an award at my studio's International Summer School - hosted by the European School of Ballet - for "potential and hard work" last year.

I've had the honour of being selected to participate in Ballet Theatre Queensland's productions of Sleeping Beauty (2024) and Snow White (2025), both amazing opportunities and incredible experiences that I learnt so much from, and I hope I'm able to continue with moving forward.

My Christmas present last December was to attend my dance studio's International Summer School again (hosted here in Brisbane, this time with Elmhurst Ballet School) and audition for Elmhurst. Although I was unsuccessful in receiving a full-time offer to train in England, I was offered a full scholarship to their Summer Program next August, which is unbelievable and so exciting! It includes all the training (full time for a whole week), boarding on the school grounds (accommodation and food), and some extra activities, which is very generous. But unfortunately, the scholarship doesn't cover the cost of flights (both for my myself and mum) from Brisbane to Birmingham and back, and there will also be costs for mum's accommodation.

We were quick to accept the offer for this amazing opportunity, but it seems that now we might not be able to make it in the end.

Sou uma jovem bailarina e tenho muita paixão pela dança. Nos últimos anos, venho me esforçando muito para aprimorar minhas habilidades como uma versátil bailarina, sem deixar de lado minha dedicação aos estudos.

Me considero abençoada por ter pais que sempre apoiaram minha dança, de todas as formas, com muito sacrifício e amor, e sou muito grata pelo seus esforços ao longo dos anos. Também sou muito agradecida à minha família no Brasil, que contribuiu no último ano e continua ajudando este ano, tornando possível que eu continue dançando, apesar do aumento do custo de vida aqui na Austrália e no mundo todo.

Ano passado, com a ajuda das minhas incríveis professoras da Annette Roselli Dance Academy, conquistei meus melhores resultados no exame da Royal Academy of Dance até agora (Alta Distinção em Intermediate Foundation) e cheguei à rodada final do Jacqueline Morland Awards da RAD. Também recebi um prêmio na “Escola Internacional de Verão” do meu estúdio – organizada pela European School of Ballet – por “potencial e trabalho árduo” em 2024. Tive a honra de ser selecionada para participar das produções do Ballet Theatre Queensland de A Bela Adormecida (2024) e Branca de Neve (2025), ambas oportunidades incríveis e experiências maravilhosas que me ensinaram muito, e que espero poder repetir.

Meu último presente de Natal foi participar novamente da “Escola Internacional de Verão” do meu estúdio aqui em Brisbane, desta vez com a Elmhurst Ballet School – e fazer uma audição para a Elmhurst. Embora não tenha recebido uma oferta para treinar em tempo integral na Inglaterra, fui agraciada com uma bolsa integral para o Programa de Verão deles, em agosto próximo, o que é incrível e muito empolgante! A bolsa cobre todo o treinamento (tempo integral por uma semana inteira), hospedagem no campus da escola (acomodação e alimentação) e algumas atividades extras, o que é muito generoso. Infelizmente, a bolsa não cobre o custo das passagens aéreas Brisbane-Birmingham-Brisbane, tanto para mim quanto para minha mãe, além dos custos de acomodação para minha mãe.

Num piscar de olhos, aceitamos a oferta para essa oportunidade incrível, mas agora parece que talvez não conseguiremos viabilizá-la.
