Purchase of the Old School Duncormick
We are excited to announce our mission to bring The Old School in Duncormick back into community ownership and restore it to its former glory. This historic building, which opened its doors in 1930 to educate the local population, has a rich history that deserves to be celebrated and preserved. After serving as a school until 1971, The Old School transitioned into a hub for business when George Dwyer purchased it from Fr. Michael Sinnott PP in 1972. His vision led to the establishment of an engineering business in the back, while his late brother, Jim, opened a supermarket that thrived for many years. Jim sadly died in 1979 but the supermarket was carried on by Eileen Dwyer and Mary Jordan but closed finally in early 1990’s.
However, time has taken its toll, and The Old School has sadly fallen into disrepair. Now, thanks to the generous offer from the Brogan family, the community of Duncormick has a unique opportunity to purchase this important building. Our plan is not only to preserve the past but also to transform The Old School into a vibrant hub for events, educational programs, and cultural activities. We envision a welcoming space where all community members, young and old, can come together to learn, share, and connect with one another.
To make this dream a reality, we need your support. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is invaluable in helping us reach our goal of revitalizing The Old School. Together, we can breathe new life into this cherished building and ensure that it becomes a focal point for community engagement and learning for future generations.
Join us on this journey to create a thriving environment where the spirit of The Old School continues to inspire and bring people together in Duncormick.
