Old Pay Office Refurbishment for the Community

We are raising money to help fund refurbishment of our band headquarters building to make it a safe, welcoming environment for all. The building, which used to be the colliery pay office, is over 100 years old and is the last surviving evidence of the pit being there.

The estimate for carrying out the full refurbishment is approx £200,000 but we hope to be able to obtain Heritage Lottery Funding for the most part.

The building is owned by Easington Colliery Band (formed in 1915) and is our headquarters and rehearsal facility, we want to refurbish the building to bring it up to modern standards while still maintaining the original features where possible.

Once refurbished, we intend to open up the building to the community when not being used by the band. We are hoping to open up a cafe/coffee shop that would be open during the day for the use of local people and walkers from the England Coastal Path.
There will be other rooms that could be used by other community groups to hold meetings, exhibitions, seminars etc

We already have local people on board who currently run small coffee mornings in the building and exhibit photos of the pit and the people who lived and worked here.

If any local groups, residents or businesses would like to get involved, particularly with funding or interest in using the building, then please get in touch with by emailing     [email redacted] or through our Facebook page
