Old Bro Bowl Project

Donation protected

The Old Bro ramp was built in 2006 by a group of skateboarders who came together and donated their money, time, materials and labor. That group became known as the Old Bros and has grown very large over the years.
Also in 2006, my family and I went on a short term mission’s trip to Egypt through our church, North Coast Calvary Chapel.
We volunteered at a kid’s sports camp and we fell in love with the camp because of its all inclusive nature. It is a rare place for North Africa and the Middle East where kids of all backgrounds whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish or secular, are able to come together and just be kids enjoying sports.
I brought some donated skateboards and introduced skateboarding to kids at the camp. I also taught some of the kids how to build a ramp. Not only had they never touched a skateboard before but they had never used a saw or a hammer!
The next year we started a skateboarding program at the camp. We brought more donated skateboards and were soon teaching groups of fifty or more kids. Now we were going back every year.
In 2011 we raised $45,000.00 and built Egypt’s first concrete skate park at the camp. The logistics were crazy but we got it done in four weeks.
Meanwhile, back home in Carlsbad, CA, the Old Bro ramp was gaining popularity and hundreds of people were coming through our backyard to skate and feel the welcoming vibe that is Old Bro.
We went back to Egypt at least once a year for the next thirteen years to run skate camps and do demos at the skate park for "sports festivals".
This includes a list of the best and most famous skateboard Pros in the world as well as BMX riders. They donated their time and talent to make those events a huge success and performed in front of crowds numbering 10,000 per day.
Over one thousand kids have been to the skate park at the camp in Egypt. We have brought over,  more than two hundred skateboards and a lot of safety gear donated by corporations and Old Bros.
In the thirteen years of taking dozens of coaches and athletes to the camp we have contributed over $90,000.00 to the cause.
During this whole process we were constantly being asked "Why Egypt?  Why not do something here in America?"
The gratitude and appreciation shown to us by the Egyptian people and the feeling of giving back to skateboarding is what kept us going back

The Old Bro ramp has served an amazing purpose and has been the catalyst for all of this.  If we are to do more, we need to build a concrete bowl  so that we can spend more time, energy and money on giving back rather than maintenance and up keep.

Our plan is to have skateboard sessions and create programs for At Risk Youth. Whether it's foster kids or kids in the CPS system or just kids without access to a private bowl to work on their skills without peer pressure. We have established connections with organizations to help us facilitate this.
We will install a lift for Wheelchair riders to enable them to get out of the bowl much easier.

We also hope to use our bowl to raise money for other worthy causes in and outside of the skateboarding world.

The Old Bro ramp has always been about inclusion, fellowship, community, positivity and friendships.
Our hope is to continue that tradition for years to come and for future generations.

Please consider donating to our cause. We have set our go fund me goal at $15,000.00, because we have already raised $10,000.00 towards our project through word of mouth and fundraising events held at our home.
No donation is too small and everything is so greatly appreciated!
