Obi Feeding Robot for Colton

Donation protected
Many of you may or may not know Colton. Colton was born 6 years ago with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita(AMC). He has reduced mobility in his legs and cannot walk without leg braces. Colton also has amyoplasia in his arms, which mean he has no use of his arms. He cannot raise or lower them, move them, or use them in any way. This prevents him from doing almost anything with his hands and arms, including playing with toys, getting dressed or feeding himself.

We recently attended the AMC conference in Columbus Ohio. While there, we discovered a company that makes feeding robots to allow those who cannot feed themselves to become more independent. This robot is called the Obi, and is AMAZING!!

The Obi is a portable, rechargeable, teachable robot that can be taken anywhere. It is very compact and easy to use. Two buttons give the user the option of changing the food tray or serving it to them.

We were able to get a 30 day trial of the robot to see if it would be a viable option for Colton. Not only is it viable, but it allows him to be in total control of not only what he wants to eat, but how fast. No longer would he have to ask anyone for a bite. He gets to have the freedom and independence to eat at his own pace!

We have tried the robot not only at home, but at school as well. It is amazing how quickly Colton adapted to using it! In fact he refuses to eat any meal now unless he gets to use the Obi. He LOVES being able to be in control of his meal time now! It also allows Colton to say he has his own robot.....Who else can say that!!!

Now that the trial is coming to an end, we have to try and get a permanent Obi for Colton. Insurance classifies it as a "quality of life" item and not a "medically necessary item" so they will not cover ANY part of it! That leaves us to come up with the entire cost.

An Obi currently cost $5,950. Unfortunately, that is beyond the budget for most families with kids like Colton!

We humbly ask for help in providing Colton with the means to become even more independent and self confident when it comes to meal times. After all, who wants to depend on someone else to eat the rest of their lives??

Thank Everyone for Everything they have done for Colton!
