Beth was diagnosed with “clear cell adenocarcinoma”, December of 2012, a rare type of vaginal cancer. None of the “conventional tests”, that she had every year, ever came up positive with any type of cervical or vaginal issues, but now we know that this type of cancer isn’t diagnosed in the conventional tests. The only reason she went to the doctors in the first place, was because she had some unusual bleeding from her vagina.
The doctor said that this type of cancer, can only be caused by the hormone DES, that was given to women from 1940 to 1971, to help stop miscarriages. They found out way before they stopped giving the hormone that, it did nothing to stop miscarriages, but caused issues in the children and this is a rare condition caused by that hormone.
By the time she was diagnosed, it was already at stage 4b, meaning that it had metastasized into distant organs and into the bones. She under went chemo, which at first seemed to be reducing the tumors, but only for a little while. She also went through some radiation, which stopped the constant bleeding, but had plenty of side effects.
After the latest CT scan, it’s clear that the chemo and radiation for the last 2 years didn’t do much, if anything. There are no known cures, so other than the Lord completely healing her, which she believes with her whole heart, that if that is His will, He will heal her, then she has to get into a clinical study.
One would think that knowing what they know now, about this hormone, DES, the pharmaceutical companies would be held accountable to pay for this research, but we know that just isn’t going to happen, and because this cancer is so rare, not a lot of funds get allocated to this type of research.
So, any monetary help, would help pay for any studies Beth can get into that our insurance may not help. Since Beth can’t work right now and I need to take time off of work to take her to her appointments and take care of her, it would help out with some of our bills.
