After sticking it out for the first two months in quarantine in a small studio apartment in NYC, Laurie finally left for Charlotte, North Carolina to be her family while she safely awaits for the city to re-open.
Just a few days after her arrival to Charlotte, Laurie got word from her landlord that an old radiator had exploded in her unit. Piping hot steam had been pummeling into her apartment for three days before anyone noticed. The ceiling and walls are now peeling and crumbling. Mold has grown between her mattresses, covering her pillows, blankets, furniture, rugs, art, clothing, shoes... EVERYTHING has been ruined.
Like many, Laurie has lost her job due to COVID-19 and being in NYC, it is very unclear as to how long this may last. You can imagine it is challenging enough trying to figure out how to pay NYC rent without a job, imagine losing everything you have on top of that. It is devastating and our heart truly breaks for our dear friend.
