Mental Health Placement in India

In July this year I will be taking part in a Clinical and Ancient Psychology Placement in India with SLV Global. The organisations’ focus is on global mental health with their main aim to benefit communities in need of extra support. At the same time, it allows people like me to gain invaluable experience and develop skills in the clinical field of psychology.
In India, an estimation of 150 million people are in need of mental health care interventions. Despite the high number of people who need care, mental health has been sorely neglected in India, rooted in stigma, taboo and myth. This lack of availability of resources and support means many people are left untreated, suffering from psychological conditions and discrimination.
Being given this opportunity means I will be able to help individuals with mental health problems. This is done through using my knowledge of psychology, causes and treatment which can be made specific to the particular individual. A typical day over the two weeks will involve learning how ancient Eastern techniques can complement modern methods to treat mental health concerns, in both clinical and community settings.
Any donation big or small is welcomed and greatly appreciated. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and it is an incredibly worthwhile cause for those with mental health issues in India.
