COVID-19 Support for Youth Employment and Community Food Bank at Social Enterprise Café
North London Community Consortium works for social good and community wellbeing in North London and beyond. We prioritise community need and build local partnerships to sustainably create social change in the face of ongoing inequality.
After NLCC’s founding in March 2020, we led a COVID-19 rapid response, mobilising 175 volunteers for meal preparation and delivery, grocery delivery for key workers, and support for those self-isolating.
The team delivered over 30,000 individual meals from March to May to those in most need across the borough of Haringey, one of the hardest-hit by COVID in London, and beyond.
Since March we have been busy:
· launched NLCC Radio, a radio station to offset the challenges of social isolation
· launched Allotmentz Community Café and Restaurant (open for delivery during lockdown!), a social enterprise training and employing 27 local young people in the food industry and providing a crucial community space
· building partnerships with community organisations to expand our programme’s reach
· continuing to recruit and support young people from the most underserved communities in job training and access, mental health and other essential challenges
In the wake of the second COVID-19 lockdown, we want to build on the success of our current work, and we need your support!
