North African Queer Community Fundraiser
As part of the first edition of the North African Queer Film Festival, an 8-day online festival featuring screenings, talks, workshops and more, Dhakira Collective is raising funds for a number of queer advocacy groups, community initiatives, festivals and cultural projects across North Africa.
100% of all donations will go directly into supporting initiatives by and for the North African queer community including Aswat Nissa, Alouen, Rainbow Egypt and more as well as mutual aid within the community.
The festival will run from August 13th-20th 2021 and will be accessible worldwide for free on a temporary website and feature award-winning films that cast a light on the social, political, emotional and cultural aspects of queer identity in the North African region while also challenging dominant narratives and representations of LGBTQ+ folks in North Africa, as well as workshops + panel talks with feminist & queer collectives/activists from the region and its diasporas about community organizing, decolonizing the queer experience, mutual aid and more.

Dhakira Collective is an independent archival, curatorial and research platform based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal that foregrounds art, cinema and music outside the western canon.
We acknowledge that we are operating from the unceded Indigenous territory of Tiohtià:ke which forms part of the Kanien’kehá:ka nation and the Haudenosaunee confederation and wish to express our solidarity with First Nations people across Turtle Island in their struggle against settler colonialism, imperialism, land theft and genocide.
