My name is Thalia Torio, and I am a third-year student at the School of Visual Arts studying film production. My film this year follows a 26-year-old writer, Ramona, living with her two younger sisters in a world where men suddenly vanished.
This film is a message to all women, with a particular focus on younger women navigating the complexities of today’s world—where too often, we feel unheard, disrespected, and invisible. In a world that too frequently overlooks our voices, this is a call to recognize that we are seen and worthy of respect.
My hope is that this film will inspire young women to reclaim their power, reminding them that the future is in our hands. I want to spark a sense of possibility—that we can one day occupy the same spaces, hold the same respect, and be seen in the same way that men are in this world. But more than an escape, this film is an invitation to confront reality, even within a fictional world—highlighting the real issues we face as a result of the systems and behaviors we have inherited.
At its heart, this film is deeply inspired by my mother, whose life’s mission was to support and empower women affected by domestic violence. Her strength and compassion have shaped my vision for this story, and through her, I hope to honor the countless women whose struggles too often go unseen.
The money raised to create this film will go to food/crafty for all cast and crew, equipment, locations, transportation, production design, and costumes! Every donor will get a special credit in the film. Thank YOU for helping me bring this message to life!
