CARING FOR OTHERS TO HOST ANNUAL SHOE DISTRIBUTION EVENT

3,000 Children to Receive a Free New Pair of Shoes

Atlanta-based human services agency Caring For Others Inc. will give 3,000 children a new pair of shoes on Saturday, July 27, 2019, when hosting its seventh-annual No Bare Soles shoe distribution. The program will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the organization’s South Atlanta headquarters located at 3537 Browns Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30354.

All families participating in No Bare Soles must register in advance. Registration begins Monday, June 10 and will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Caring For Others. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis throughout the month of June until all slots have been filled. No registration will take place at No Bare Soles in July.

Since the first shoe distribution event in 2011, No Bare Soles has given more than 100,000 new pairs of shoes to children in more than five countries including the United States, Antigua, Guyana, Nepaland the Philippines. Last month, Caring For Others completed a No Bare Soles distribution in Linden, Guyana, and the organization plans to take thousands of pairs of new shoes to Sri Lanka later this year.

“We are delighted that No Bare Soles has brought dignity and hope to so many children in Atlanta and around the world for several years now,” says EsleneRichmond-Shockley, founding president and CEO of Caring For Others. “Although it is a significant undertaking, we are committed to giving away only new shoes and other items like backpacks and clothing.

“I can still remember the first pair of new shoes I received as a child,” says Shockley, who grew up poor in Guyana herself. “They made me feel like I was as good as the other children who had more than my siblings and I did. Every child should know that feeling and that they are worth a new pair of shoes and so much more.” Shockley has often personally funded the No Bare Soles program when donations were scarce.

In addition to helping qualifying families avoid the cost of school shoes for their children, the program also aims to send a subtle message of acceptance and encouragement to each recipient.

Caring for Others welcomes the community’s support. Sponsorships of $20 per child are available.
