We have been through many challenges, some we face together and some we go through alone. I am lucky to have all of you to help me with my most recent adventure. Most of those whom have known me for a long time know that I haven't always wanted a family. My life and dreams changed when an amazing man was brought into my life. My husband has always wanted to have children and as those around us started growing their families and sharing their love and their children with us my hopes and plans for our future started to change.
Over the last few years Ed and I have started preparing our lives for our next big adventure. We bought our first home, I advanced in a career that I love, and we adopted our four-legged children. Two years ago we decided we were ready to expand our family.
After six months of trying I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with PCOS, which makes our goal a little harder to achieve. After forming a treatment plan we continued trying for a few months. A dear friend of mine offered some advice and we found ourselves at a fertility clinic. My doctor advised a few more tests and we found out that we had one option. In vitro fertilization.
I didn't know how much three words could cost, both monetary and emotionally. After much discussion and many tears we decided to ask for help. A few very generous family members helped us to put down a large amount of many so that Ed and I could know the joy of creating a life.
It took a month to prepare my body for the hormone injections that I would have to take everyday. Unfortunately, the medication I needed for in vitro was about $500 a day and I was not responding at the rate they thought I should be and we almost gave up. Fourteen days into the injections, we were finally given great news! We planned our first procedure and I went home to take my trigger shot. We were so excited that we could hardly wait the three days we needed to!
The day came to get us one step closer to having a little one of our own. We were able to get five quality eggs to fertilize. Now we just had to wait and see! The same day that was the most exciting was also the hardest, the same evening I lost my mother. The only thing that got me through losing her was the thought that I could be a mother.
Five days later my doctor implanted 2 embryos. We were given a photo of our soon to be babies and I was sent home to be on bed rest. Luckily my wonderful mother-in-law was able to take care of me and cook for me!
Seven days after our implantation my joy and hopes were crushed. We lost our embryos the day before our scheduled pregnancy test. It was confirmed that we would not be parents. We were crushed.
Since then I have met with my doctor and he is hopeful that if we try again we will be successful. This is where you all come in, we need your help. We cannot afford to spend another $15,500 on a chance. Our nurse told us about a program where we can pay $22,000 and get 6+ chances! With the emotional strain that it put on us we are looking to wait about a year until trying again. I know that it is a lot to ask of everyone, but every dollar counts.
