My name is Morgan. I have been given the most amazing chance to intern this summer with the National Marine Mammal Program in San Diego, California! This opportunity is literally a dream come true for me.
As a small child, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. My answer: I want to be a dolphin. Now, when I was told that was not possible I settled on the next best thing I knew! I have amazing passion for all marine life, but it is my life mission to play a key role in marine mammal care and conservation through active involvement in marine mammal rescue, rehabilitation, research, and training.
This amazing learning opportunity with one of the most esteemed programs in the world is a major step in the direction of my goals and dreams.
In this Animal Care and Training Internship Program, I will provide support to Navy Marine Mammal Program Staff while getting a dynamic educational experience in the field of marine mammal care and training. I will be responsible for a number of support tasks with dolphins and sea lions throughout the course of the internship. Lectures and field trips will also be conducted throughout the term to enhance my learning experience. This is a volunteer program where I must commit to 40 hours per week for 16 consecutive weeks.
And as many of you know, internships like this are unpaid and living expenses can be quite costly.
During my internship, I will be responsible for monthly rent/utilities, gas (for getting there and commuting between bases), and feeding myself for four months without an income!
This is why I need YOUR help! Anything and everything you could offer will help my family and I drive myself further toward my career.
Not only will I learn so much about different marine mammal species, open ocean training, and animal training in research, but I will grow as a person as well. I would highly appreciate any donations, kind words, and prayers during this time of transition in my life. I cannot wait to begin this next chapter in my life!
