Help Nic Access Gender Affirming Top Surgery

Hey y’all! Thank you for being here to support me and for taking the time to read my story.
Many of you know me as Nic Cicada Martinez, but as part of my gender affirmation process I’ve recently changed my name to Hank Francis River-Martinez. Due to the recent nature of this change, I’m holding this fundraiser in my previous name for familiarity’s sake.
I’ve needed medically necessary gender affirming top surgery for over 10 years, and feel overjoyed to finally have a surgery date of June 9th. With a surgery date announced so soon, I am moving quickly to organize the essential funds in order to access this necessary procedure without delay.
As someone who has routinely experienced homelessness, turbulent living conditions, and has spent a majority of their adulthood stabilizing from the impacts of severe prolonged adolescent and young adult trauma, I never dreamt accessing this treatment would be within my realm of possibility until very recently. I am incredibly grateful and humbled by this opportunity as I recognize the privilege I hold in being able to approach such a momentous occasion.
As far back as I can remember I’ve understood myself to exist outside the gender binary. I currently embrace the terms queer, trans, and two-spirit as language to help others understand my proximal gender experience. However, they are not exhaustive terms for my true lived identity. I am neither a woman or a man. I am both and neither simultaneously, while also understanding I embody so much more beyond them as well.
This procedure will allow me
to finally live more in alignment with my gender identity, and is vital for insuring my health and safety. I cannot possibly tell you how important achieving top surgery is in reclaiming my life, mental health, and physical well-being. Because of these truths, I am turning to you best I can to ask for your help.
The money from this fundraiser will allow me to access the medically urgent & necessary gender affirming care I desperately require. It will allow me to focus on getting the care I need, without the fear of financial obstacles preventing me from accessing this necessary procedure or the pressure of returning to work before I am medically ready. It will also support me through necessary recovery care, where the body can continue to heal for nearly one year after the acute post-operative phase.
All funds will go towards covering surgical costs, medical costs, associated supply costs, housing + food security, monthly bills, lost income, costs for hiring help, transportation, supplies for the long road of recovery ahead, and a buffer for unexpected expenses or possible emergencies. Additionally, due to the pandemic a portion of funds will also go towards covering the transportation, air bnb, and all other associated travel costs for my disabled caretaker to come tend to me around the clock in Portland during my acute recovery phase.
