Nick’s London2Paris bike ride for EACH.

Hello! Welcome to my fund raising page - a first for me, so here goes...
My name is Nick, I’m a professional opera singer who sings in the Chorus of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Until I joined the chorus in 2017, I had cycled very rarely but I quickly bowed to the inevitable to get me to work. But what a blessing in disguise! I got my first road bike at the beginning of lockdown and have loved exploring the beautiful county of Suffolk on my trusty steed, clocking up a fair few miles. It really has been brilliant for body and mind.

My dear old Dad, Ian, died 15 years ago after suffering a heart attack and then quickly afterwards being diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer in 2006. Last year, 2021, would have been his 80th birthday. He loved cycling as a youngster and he and his brother, Malc, would take on some incredible (and long!) cycling adventures together, and so I thought it would be a fitting tribute to him to put to my new love of cycling to some use and raise as much money as I possibly can by attempting something which would have been totally unthinkable only 12 months ago.

After Covid postponed our trip, I’m crossing everything it can go ahead this year. On Wednesday 3rd August 2022, I’m going to get on a bike (a bike) in London (London) and pedal all the way to Paris (PARIS!), approximately 280 miles in 4 days - about 70 miles a day - although the first day will be up around 90 miles. Typing it out, it sounds a really long way!

I’ve decided to ride for a brilliant charity called East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). They support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk with day care and specialist centres, physio- and hydro- therapy, music and art therapy and end of life care. Anything you can give, and I know it’s been a tough year and I’m asking a lot, will be amazing. We know charities are finding it hard to raise the funds they need, so every contribution  - large, small, and everywhere in between, will be enormously appreciated. You can check out their brilliant work at www.each.org.uk

My aim is to keep you all up to date with video diaries of my training, and on the ride itself. Hopefully I’ll have enough puff left to knock out some opera along the way!

Huge love and thanks!

Nick xxx
