Running to make a difference

On the 3rd of October eight members of Esker Running Group in Lucan, Dublin are running the Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon
26.2 miles. As well as running the marathon we hope to raise money for charity. We have chosen three charities which have played a huge role in supporting our families and friends through difficult times in their lives.
Our own small running group have had several members who have battled cancer and we also lost our dear friend Fiona last year to the
disease, so we have chosen to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
Some of us have also lost friends and family through suicide and know the absolute devastation it causes, so for this reason we would like
tosupport the wonderful Pieta House.
Another charity close to our hearts is the Irish Heart Foundation.
A personal story from group member Nicola.
While all our chosen charities do amazing work, I’m hoping to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation in particular. In March of this year my husband Gary age 48, Dad of our three children had a heart attack and emergency stent fitted. It was such a shock and a very difficult
time for our family, we got great support from the Irish Heart Foundation. They were there to offer advice, information and reassurance
when we needed it most. I really can appreciate first-hand the amazing work these charities do for people. They are an invaluable service
for people in need.
We hope any money raised will help these charities continue to support anyone who may need them in the future.
Our eight runners appreciate any donation no matter how big or small to help us raise much needed funds for our chosen charities.
