Newport Marathon for Homeless LGBTQ Youth
Tax deductible
Over the years, running has helped me learn more about myself, including my LGBTQ identity. Now, it's time for my running to give back. On April 13th, I will be running the Newport Marathon to raise money and awareness for homeless LGBTQ youth. All money raised will be donated to the Ali Forney Center, which supports homeless LGBTQ youth in New York City. This is one of my first steps in supporting this community through my life, work, and energy.
Committed to saving the lives of LGBT young people, in 2002 Carl Siciliano founded the Ali Forney Center (AFC) in memory of Ali. Since AFC's launch with 6 beds in a church basement, the organization has grown to become the largest agency dedicated to LGBTQ homeless youths in the country. This is an epidemic; 40% of homeless youth in NYC identify as LGBTQ. Visit https://www.aliforneycenter.org to learn more.
A donation of just $3 can provide a day's worth of meals for a single member of the AFC community. Whether big or small, your donation will directly support the homeless LGBTQ youth population, as well as motivate me to keep running. Though the goal seems ambitious, if everyone pitches in and shares my campaign, I trust that we can even exceed my goal.
